The Great Debate!

Posted in politics with tags , , on February 14, 2011 by spikestl

Come hear the Great Debate!!!

Decide for yourself:
Will an Article V Convention save our Constitution…..
….. or destroy it???

The currently proposed Repeal Amendment would give state legislatures veto power over any federal law or regulation they didn’t like — whether it passes constitutional muster or not:

“Any provision of law or regulation of the United States may be repealed by the several states, and such repeal shall be effective when the legislatures of two-thirds of the several states approve resolutions for this purpose that particularly describe the same provision or provisions of law or regulation to be repealed.”

Such an amendment would call for an Article V Convention…..

The Article V/ Repeal Amendment Debate

Posted in Cool Beans with tags , , on January 23, 2011 by spikestl

Please join us for a debate on the merits and dangers of an Article V Constitutional convention to amend the US Constitution.
Many states including Missouri are or have introduced legislation requesting an article V convention to consider the Repeal Amendment.
This is a very important debate.
We the people need to be informed and understand the pros and cons of such an action.
If this happens it will be the first convention convened since since the passage of the US Constitution.

Akin Alert: 112th Congress Gets to Work – 01/05/11

Posted in My E-mail with tags , , on January 6, 2011 by spikestl

Dear Spike,

Today, the 112th Congress will be sworn in. While some might see this as a formality, I believe that it is an important reminder that we act under the authority of the Constitution and within the powers it delegates to us.

The Oath

Article VI of the Constitution, states that “The Senators and Representatives shall be bound by Oath or Affirmation, to support this Constitution.”

I, along with my colleagues from across the country, will take this Oath today:

“I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter. So help me God.”

Fidelity to this Oath is about much more than lip-service. It means knowing what the Constitution says and considering each vote in light of the Oath we take at the beginning of each legislative session.

The Job

After the 112th Congress is seated, we will get to work. Here’s a quick look at what I’ve been doing and what we expect to change this Congress.

For the first time ever, this session of Congress will begin with a public reading of the U.S. Constitution.
In the new Congress, floor time will not be spent on symbolic resolutions.
Every bill introduced in the 112th Congress will have to cite the section of the Constitution which gives Congress authority to enact it.
In January, we expect to vote on legislation to repeal the government takeover of the health care industry which was enacted last year.

I have cosponsored legislation to repeal the 1099 reporting requirement in the health care law, which burdens job creators with the requirement to report every business transaction that costs more than $600.
The House Rules Package, which lays out how the House will do business this Congress, includes my amendment requiring each committee to include proposals for eliminating wasteful spending in their oversight plan.
One of our first priorities on January 6th will be to vote on legislation reducing the amount of money the House of Representatives spends on day-to-day operations.

Let me know what you think. What else should be our list of top priorities?

Sincerely,

W. Todd Akin

September 23, 2010

In a bid to inform voters of their Constitutional Rights, and push to get out the vote on November 2, 2010, the Saint Louis Tea Party Coalition is set to host the St. Louis Tea Party Homecoming this Saturday, September 25, 2010.

To kick-off the Homecoming, STLTPC will be unveiling their newest Initiative; Tea Party Treaty. The Tea Party Treaty is a document formed as a contract between the citizens and their Representatives, restoring accountability.

The event will begin at 2 pm with food, refreshments, games, and information. Homecoming is open to the public, and is a family-friendly event. It will be held at the STLTPC Victory Center Headquarters, 4512 Hampton Avenue, St. Louis.

With the continued and growing interest in the Tea Party Movement, key figures of the St. Louis Tea Party Coalition will be on hand to welcome and further educate citizens in attendance.

Be a Liberty Evangelist

Posted in Liberty, Tea Party with tags , , , on April 8, 2010 by spikestl

St. Louis Tea Party Coalition

The time for standing in a park and yelling is almost over.  The country needs your boots on the ground right now.

The tea party lives and breathes to make a difference at the ballot box.  We fight to destroy the left. We’re not a garden club that meets once a week to admire each others tulips.  Yet, on Tuesday, in a year that is supposedly overflowing with conservative emotion, only 18 percent turned out to vote in St. Louis County.  And most of them were liberals!

As Dr. Gina Loudon noted, “Every tax increase on the ballot  . . . passed.”

Image: Battle of Mobile Bay

So, I have to ask:  Are you going to fight for your country like a patriot, or are you going to let the communists end the American experiment? On their terms?

I think I know the answer.  But it’s time to act.

We need to build an army of soldiers.  Soldiers who are willing to be trained.  Soldiers who will recruit more soldiers. Soldiers who will march door to door, into malls, and through parks and fairs spreading the word of freedom.

We need an army of Liberty Evangelists.

Will you be one?

Here’s what we need:

  • Update your information by clicking here.  Please provide your interests for volunteering, your cell phone number, and your zip code at minimum.
  • Commit to getting five friends or family to join the Tea Party
  • Attend Liberty Evangelist training in your area when it’s offered.
  • We need 10 patriots to pledge $1000 each to fund the start of this campaign.  We’ll get other donations later. This is to create training and tools for the Liberty Evangelists.
  • Be ready to march.

I will sound the call to arms again at the Jefferson County Tea Party this Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at Arnold City Park

(BTW, if your name is not on the top line of this email, you need to update your account settings

Why is this so important?

As I’ve said for a long time, now, if we do not make a HUGE difference in Congress this year, the 2012 elections may not matter.  America’s life or death election is less than seven months away, and frankly, we’re not ready yet.  We proved that on Tuesday.

But we will be ready in August and November.  I know you won’t let your country down. I know you won’t let this remarkable year of grassroots uprising be for naught.  I know you will rise to the occasion.

Next week, my oldest son leaves for Navy boot camp.  He’s the third generation to make that lonesome, frightening journey.  He’ll do well, I know.  He’s an American, and soon to be an American fighting man.

We are all American fighting men and women.  Every one of us.  We have in our being the stuff of Washington, Adams, Jefferson, and Franklin. Farragut and Patton.  And we KNOW that we are endowed by our Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, and that when some s.o.b. tries to take away those rights, we will RISE UP and JOIN with our fellow Americans to SLAP DOWN that tyrant like a yappie dog!

Well, folks, that tyrant has come.  That tyrant has three heads–Obama, Pelosi, and Reid.  We are going to smack that tyrant down, but we need the tools to so.  One of those tools is the Army of Liberty Evangelists, and YOU are ONE of that ARMY.

Join now.  Evangelize liberty.  Recruit your friends.

Damn the torpedoes, Smedley; full steam ahead!

Sincerely,
Bill Hennessy

P.S.  This weekend’s Tea Party events in Collinsville, Il, featuring BigGovernment.com editor-in-chief Mike Flynn, and in Arnold, MO, featuring Dana Loesch, are important events, not to be missed. This is the kick-off of campaign season.  Please take a couple of hours to get prepared for a tough year of battle against the forces of forced collectivism.  We need YOU, your family, and your friends involved to win. Please don’t let America down.

“Others want to know why I am voting against it.”

Posted in Health Control, politics, Uncategorized with tags , , , , , , , on March 19, 2010 by spikestl

This week my offices have been inundated with thousands of calls, emails and faxes about H.R. 3590, the Democratic majority’s health care bill.

Some people want to know more about what is in the bill. Others want to know why I am voting against it.

That’s why I’ve released a series of short web articles on the 2400 page health care bill, describing some of my concerns about it. Check out:

H.R. 3590 – Individual Mandate

H.R. 3590 – How much will health care reform really cost?

H.R. 3590 – “Pay or Play” Mandate

H.R. 3590 – Reconciliation: Just the Facts!

H.R. 3590 – Sweetheart Deals

H.R. 3590 – Abortion Funding

You can also visit my website for more detailed information about the health care reform principles I support and alternative legislation I have co-sponsored.

Right now, it looks like a vote on H.R. 3590 will occur on Sunday afternoon. I will be working through the weekend and getting you the latest details via Facebook, Twitter & my website.

Thank you for your input during this important time for our country.

 Sincerely,

W. Todd Akin

Call to Arms: Join Me in DC Saturday to Stop ObamaCare

by Jon Voight I am calling to all of you freedom-loving Americans to come once again to Washington D.C. to gather at upper Senate Park, across from the Capitol on Saturday, at 12 o’clock noon.

We must come by the thousands.

Speaker Pelosi will stop at nothing to fulfill her corrupt conquests. She will bring all of the corrupt ACORN liars to try to bully all the Democrats that may be having pangs of guilt knowing quite surely what their votes can and will do. If they’re bullied into saying “yes,” it will destroy America.

Join me and Rep. Michele Bachmann in Washington DC at 12 noon EST so we can give all the Democrats who know what the end result will be the courage to say: “No, do not pass this destructive bill.”

I’ll see you there.
